White-bellied parrot

Pionites leucogaster

The White-bellied parrot (Pionites leucogaster) is a medium-sized parrot native to the Amazon rainforest of South America. These social and intelligent birds are known for their vibrant plumage and playful behavior. They have a predominantly green body with a bright white belly, and their wings and tail feathers are adorned with shades of blue and red. White-bellied parrots are highly vocal and communicate through a variety of calls and squawks. They primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and nuts, and are often found in flocks foraging in the forest canopy. Habitat loss and illegal trapping for the pet trade are major threats to their population.
