White-bellied Sunbird
Malcorus pectoralis
The White-bellied Sunbird is a small passerine bird found in southern Africa. It is known for its distinctive white belly and iridescent green and blue plumage on the upperparts. The male has a shimmering metallic green crown and throat, while the female is more subdued with olive-green upperparts. These sunbirds are often found in fynbos, woodland, and gardens, where they feed on nectar from various flowering plants. They also consume insects and spiders. The White-bellied Sunbird is known for its melodious song and acrobatic flight displays during courtship. Although currently not considered threatened, habitat loss and climate change could impact its future population.
