White-breasted Cormorant, Phalacrocorax lucidus, is found across Sub-Saharan Africa, with inland birds on freshwater and others along coasts and the Red Sea. It is the only great cormorant form there with a white breast and throat, and adults also show a white neck and breast. The white area becomes more extensive as the bird matures, while young birds have broader pale mottling reaching to the belly. It is a large cormorant that generally resembles the great cormorant, and it should not be confused with the South Australian black-faced cormorant.
