White-breasted Ground Dove

Gymnophaps mada

The White-breasted Ground Dove (Gymnophaps mada) is a small, ground-dwelling dove found in the rainforests and dense woodlands of New Guinea and nearby islands. It has a distinctive white breast and face, with a rich chestnut back and wings. These doves forage on the forest floor for seeds, fallen fruits, and insects, often moving in pairs or small groups. They build their nests in low vegetation and are known for their soft, melodious calls. The species is generally secretive and elusive, making it challenging to study in the wild.
