The White-breasted Mesite (Mesitornis variegatus) is a medium-sized, ground-dwelling bird found in the dry deciduous forests of western Madagascar. It has a distinctive white breast and belly, with a black head and upperparts. This species is known for its secretive behavior, often foraging on the forest floor for insects and small invertebrates. The White-breasted Mesite is a cooperative breeder, with family groups working together to build nests and raise young. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the population of this species is declining, and it is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
