White-browed Shrike-Babbler

Heterophasia desgodinsi

The White-browed Shrike-Babbler is a medium-sized bird found in the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It has a distinctive white eyebrow stripe, black mask, and rufous underparts. This species is known for its melodious and varied calls, often heard in the dense undergrowth of broadleaf and coniferous forests. It forages for insects and small invertebrates in the understory, using its sharp bill to glean prey from foliage. The White-browed Shrike-Babbler is typically found in montane forests at elevations of 1500-3000 meters. Although not globally threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential concerns for its long-term survival.
