White-capped Pigeon

Columba albitorques

The White-capped Pigeon (Columba albitorques) is a medium-sized pigeon species found in the forests and woodlands of New Guinea and nearby islands. It is characterized by its distinctive white cap on the head, contrasting with the dark plumage on the rest of the body. These pigeons are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and seeds. They play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitats. White-capped Pigeons are generally shy and elusive, often seen in pairs or small groups. Their populations are currently stable, but they may face threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas.
