White-cheeked Turaco

Menelikornis leucotis

The White-cheeked Turaco is a medium-sized bird native to the forests and woodlands of East Africa. It is known for its vibrant green plumage, distinctive white cheek patches, and striking red beak. These birds are arboreal and spend much of their time in the canopy, where they forage for fruits, leaves, and insects. Their unique vocalizations, including a series of loud, musical calls, are often heard echoing through the forest. White-cheeked Turacos are important seed dispersers, playing a crucial role in the ecosystem. While they are not currently considered at risk, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to their populations.
