Streptoprocne semicollaris
The White-collared Swift (Streptoprocne semicollaris) is a medium-sized swift found in South America. It is characterized by its dark plumage, long, slender wings, and distinctive white collar on the back of the neck. These swifts are highly aerial and are often seen in large flocks, soaring and wheeling through the skies in search of flying insects. They nest in colonies on cliffs and rock faces, using their saliva to construct their nests. White-collared Swifts are highly adapted for a life spent almost entirely in the air, with a streamlined body and powerful flight muscles. They are known for their rapid and agile flight, making them impressive aerial acrobats.
