White-crowned Parrot

Pionus senilis

The White-crowned Parrot, scientifically known as Pionus senilis, is a medium-sized parrot native to Central America. This species is characterized by its predominantly green plumage, with a distinctive white patch on the crown and a red patch on the vent. White-crowned Parrots are social birds often found in flocks, and they are known for their playful and inquisitive nature. They are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, seeds, and nuts. These parrots inhabit tropical and subtropical forests, as well as wooded areas near rivers and agricultural lands. Due to habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, the conservation status of the White-crowned Parrot is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
