White-crowned Tapaculo, Scytalopus atratus, is a bird of the Rhinocryptidae family found in South America from western Venezuela to central Peru. It lives in the undergrowth of humid montane forest, both inside the forest and along its edges, and occurs between 850 and 1,900 m. The species was once treated as part of rufous-vented tapaculo, but was split mainly because its vocalisations differ. Three subspecies are recognised, with the nominate form the most widespread.
