Passerellidae — New World Sparrows
White-eared Ground Sparrow, Melozone leucotis, lives in Middle America, with breeding records from Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. It is a passerine in the New World sparrow family, and Cabanis described it in 1861. The bird is tied to open country and partly altered habitats, including forest margins, riparian woodland, coffee farms, cultivated land and urban thickets. In Costa Rica it occurs in the Central Valley, while in Honduras and Nicaragua it is recorded in separate northern and eastern areas. Its range is split, with one form farther north than the other.
