White-eared Hummingbird, Basilinna leucotis, is a hummingbird of Middle America, breeding from Mexico to Nicaragua in montane country. It lives in the interior, clearings and margins of pine, pine-oak and pine-evergreen forest, usually between 1,200 and 3,500 m. The species has a straight bill, with red and black in the male and a darker bill with some red to orange at the base in the female. It is a year-round resident across much of its range, though birds in the north move south after breeding.
