White-faced Quail-Dove

Geotrygon mystacea

The White-faced Quail-Dove (Geotrygon mystacea) is a medium-sized dove species found in the Caribbean and Central America. It is known for its distinctive white face and chestnut-colored plumage. These doves inhabit dense, humid forests and are often found foraging on the forest floor for seeds, fruits, and insects. They are shy and elusive birds, often heard cooing softly in the underbrush. The White-faced Quail-Dove is an important seed disperser in its ecosystem, contributing to the maintenance of forest diversity. Despite being relatively widespread, their populations are declining due to habitat loss and hunting.
