White Helmetshrike

Prionops plumatus

The White Helmetshrike (Prionops plumatus) is a striking bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. This species is known for its distinctive white head and black body, with a long tail and hooked bill. They are often found in savannas and open woodlands, where they forage for insects and small vertebrates in groups. White Helmetshrikes are highly social birds, often seen in noisy and active flocks. They build cup-shaped nests in trees and shrubs, and females typically lay 2-3 eggs. While not currently considered at risk, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to their populations.
