White helmetshrike

Prionops alberti

The White helmetshrike (Prionops alberti) is a small, striking bird found in the woodlands and savannas of central Africa. It is known for its distinctive white head and black body, with a hooked bill and strong, pointed wings. These social birds are often seen in small groups, foraging for insects and small vertebrates in the tree canopy. They are known for their melodious, varied calls that they use to communicate within their group. The White helmetshrike plays an important role in its ecosystem by helping to control insect populations. However, habitat loss and fragmentation are threats to its populations in some areas.
