White-naped Swift

Streptoprocne semicollaris (de Saussure, HLF, 1859)

Apodidae — Swifts

White-naped Swift, Streptoprocne semicollaris, breeds in western Mexico and is a swift of wild upland country. It is tied to cliff faces, deep gorges and high rocky outcrops, and also uses pine-oak woodland, tropical deciduous forest and regenerating scrub. It is the largest swift in the New World and among the two biggest swifts anywhere. Adults are brown-black with a blue sheen on the back and a white crescent on the nape, and the tail is fairly square, though it may look slightly notched in flight.
