White-necked Petrel

Pterodroma alba

The White-necked Petrel (Pterodroma alba) is a medium-sized seabird known for its distinctive white neck and underparts, contrasting with dark plumage on the upperparts. This species is primarily found in the southern Pacific Ocean, where it forages for fish and squid by skimming the water's surface. White-necked Petrels are skilled flyers, using dynamic soaring and gliding techniques to cover vast distances over the open ocean. Breeding colonies are located on remote islands, where the birds nest in burrows or rock crevices. Threats to the species include predation by introduced species and accidental bycatch in fisheries.
