White-rumped Falcon

Neohierax insignis (Walden, 1872)

White-rumped Falcon, Neohierax insignis, is a falcon of the Oriental Region, breeding in south-east Asia and found in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. It lives in subtropical or tropical dry forests and dry savanna. It is the only species in its genus. The bird has white underparts and a white rump, with black speckling on the chest. Its wings are dark grey above, and the tail is black with white bars. The female shows rufous on the upper back and behind the head, while the male has grey in those areas.
