White-rumped Swallow

Tachycineta leucorrhoa (Vieillot, 1817)

White-rumped Swallow, Tachycineta leucorrhoa, breeds in South America from Bolivia to central Brazil and south to central and eastern Argentina. It is a member of the swallow family and was named by Vieillot in 1817. The bird is set apart by a white streak above the lores, which helps distinguish it from the Chilean swallow. Its upperparts are glossy blue, while the lores, ear coverts, tail and wings are black. The rump, underparts and underwing-coverts are white, and the sexes look alike. Young birds are duller and browner, with a dusky breast.
