Cypsnagra hirundinacea (Lesson, RP, 1831)

Thraupidae — Tanagers & Allies

White-rumped Tanager, Cypsnagra hirundinacea, is a South American passerine in the tanager family, found in central and south-central parts of the continent. It is the only species placed in Cypsnagra. Its range is mainly in Brazil, with records also from Paraguay, Bolivia and Suriname. It lives in grassland with scattered trees, and in Brazil it is seen in territorial groups of three to six birds. The nest is a woven grass cup set low above the ground, and helpers from the previous year assist the breeding pair with the nest and young.
