White-rumped Vulture

Gyps bengalensis

The White-rumped Vulture is a large bird of prey found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a white body with a contrasting dark wing and tail feathers. This species is known for its scavenging behavior, often feeding on carrion. Unfortunately, the population of White-rumped Vultures has declined drastically due to the use of diclofenac, a veterinary drug that is toxic to them. As a result, the species is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and rehabilitate the remaining populations of this important scavenger.
