White-tailed Goldenthroat, Polytmus guainumbi, is a hummingbird of South America, breeding in the north, north-east and south-east of the continent. It occurs in a wide spread of countries from Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela through the Guianas, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina. It is a member of the Trochilidae and was described by Pallas in 1764. The species has a long, downcurved bill that is reddish and black. Its range includes wet grassland, shrubby savanna, cerrado and freshwater swamps, and it is usually found close to water in drier places.
