White-throated Crake

Rufirallus leucopyrrhus

The White-throated Crake is a small bird species found in the wetlands and marshy areas of Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive white throat and chestnut-colored wings. This secretive bird is often heard rather than seen, as it prefers to stay hidden in dense vegetation. The White-throated Crake feeds on insects, small invertebrates, and seeds, foraging in the undergrowth. Its call is a series of high-pitched whistles. Although not globally threatened, the White-throated Crake faces habitat loss and degradation due to wetland drainage and agricultural expansion.
