White-throated Screech Owl, Megascops albogularis, is an owl of the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. It was first described by Cassin in 1849 and belongs to the family Strigidae. In its range it is tied to humid montane and cloud forest, including open woodland edges and areas with scattered trees. It usually occurs between 2,000 and 3,000 m, though it can be found lower and, on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes, higher still. It is a dark-plumaged bird with a rounded head, tiny ear tufts and a longish tail, and the adult has a large white patch below the bill.
