White-throated Spadebill

The White-throated Spadebill is a small passerine bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It is known for its distinctive call, a sharp 'peenk' or 'peenk-peenk' sound. This bird has a short bill and a white throat, with a mainly olive-brown upperparts and a rufous tail. It feeds on insects and small fruits, often catching prey by sallying out from a perch. The White-throated Spadebill builds a cup-shaped nest in the understory of the forest. It is generally a shy and elusive bird, often heard more than seen.
