White-throated Swallow

Petrochelidon ariel

The White-throated Swallow (Petrochelidon ariel) is a small passerine bird native to southern Africa. It is characterized by its glossy blue-black upperparts, white underparts, and distinctive white throat patch. These agile birds are often seen in flight, darting and swooping over open habitats in search of flying insects. They build cup-shaped mud nests in colonies, often under the eaves of buildings or on cliffs. White-throated Swallows are highly social and are known for their chattering calls and acrobatic aerial displays. Their populations are currently stable, but they face threats from habitat loss and pollution.
