White-tufted Swift

Aeronautes andecolus

The White-tufted Swift is a small, fast-flying bird found in the Andes mountains of South America. With a streamlined body and long, narrow wings, it is well-adapted for life on the wing. These swifts are often seen in large flocks, soaring and wheeling through the sky as they hunt for flying insects. They nest in colonies on cliffs and rock faces, using their saliva to construct their nests. The White-tufted Swift plays an important role in its ecosystem by helping to control insect populations. Despite its abundance, threats such as habitat loss and disturbance at nesting sites may impact its future survival.
