White-wedged Piculet

Picumnus steindachneri

The White-wedged Piculet, also known as Steindachner's Piculet, is a small woodpecker found in South America. It has a distinctive black and white plumage with a red crown and a short, sturdy bill. This species is typically found in humid forests, especially in the Amazon basin, where it forages for insects and grubs by pecking at tree bark. The White-wedged Piculet is known for its rapid drumming and high-pitched calls. Although not currently considered globally threatened, habitat loss and deforestation are potential threats to its populations.
