White-whiskered Puffbird

Malacoptila mystacalis

The White-whiskered Puffbird is a medium-sized bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It is known for its distinctive white facial markings and stout, slightly hooked bill. This species primarily feeds on insects and small vertebrates, often perching quietly while waiting for prey. Its call is a series of low, rolling notes. The White-whiskered Puffbird nests in tree cavities and is generally solitary or found in pairs. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and deforestation pose potential risks to its population.
