White-winged Tanager, Piranga leucoptera, is a passerine of the Cardinalidae family found from e Mexico through Middle America and South America to Bolivia. It occurs in discontinuous parts of that range, including Mexico, Central America, Costa Rica, Panama, the Andes of Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, far northern Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. In Mexico and northern Central America it uses pine-oak forest and shaded coffee plantations, while elsewhere it is associated with humid montane forest, cloud forest and mature secondary forest, and also appears in coffee plantations and drier forest.
