Willow Flycatcher

Empidonax traillii

The Willow Flycatcher is a small, insect-eating bird found in North and South America. It has olive-brown upperparts, whitish underparts, and a pale eye ring. Its song is a distinctive fitz-bew. This species breeds in willow thickets, wetlands, and riparian areas, and winters in Central and South America. It forages by sallying from a perch to catch insects in mid-air. The Willow Flycatcher is known for its secretive nature and can be challenging to observe. Its population is declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
