The Wilson's Snipe is a medium-sized shorebird with a long, straight bill and cryptic brown and buff plumage, providing excellent camouflage in its marshland habitats. It is known for its distinctive winnowing sound produced during courtship displays. Wilson's Snipes are primarily found in wetlands, marshes, and grassy areas where they forage for invertebrates by probing their long bills into the soft mud. They are migratory birds, breeding in North America and wintering in the southern United States, Central America, and the Caribbean. Despite facing habitat loss and degradation, the Wilson's Snipe is currently not considered at risk and is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
