Wood Stork

Mycteria americana

The Wood Stork (Mycteria americana) is a large wading bird found in the southeastern United States, Central America, and northern South America. It has a distinctive bald head, long bill, and white plumage with black flight feathers. Wood Storks are primarily found in wetland habitats such as marshes, swamps, and shallow lakes where they forage for fish, amphibians, and crustaceans. They are colonial breeders, nesting in trees above water. The Wood Stork is considered a threatened species due to habitat loss and degradation, and it is listed as 'Near Threatened' by the IUCN.
