This species is known for its energetic and acrobatic foraging behavior, often catching insects in mid-air. The Yellow-bellied Pygmy Tyrant inhabits a variety of forested habitats, including tropical and subtropical lowland forests, as well as forest edges and secondary growth. It is often observed in the canopy and mid-story of the forest, where it actively hunts for prey. Despite its small size, this bird plays a significant role in the ecosystem as an insect predator.
