Yellow-breasted Bunting

Emberiza sulphurata

The Yellow-breasted Bunting (Emberiza sulphurata) is a small passerine bird found in eastern Asia. Males have striking yellow underparts with a black streaked back, while females have a more subdued brownish plumage. These birds are known for their distinctive song, which is a series of clear, whistling notes. They breed in open grassy areas and wetlands, and migrate to southern Asia for the winter. Unfortunately, the population of Yellow-breasted Buntings has experienced a severe decline due to trapping for food in their wintering grounds, leading to their classification as critically endangered by the IUCN.
