Yellow-crowned Parakeet, Cyanoramphus auriceps, is a parakeet of New Zealand, breeding on North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and nearby islands, as well as the Auckland Islands. It was first described by Kuhl in 1820. The bird is mainly bright green and has a red band before its golden crown, with bluish purple wings shown in flight. Its eyes are orange or red, and the bill is grey. Males are larger than females, and females have smaller bills. It uses upper forest canopy, mixed podocarp and southern beech forest, and also nests in crevices, burrows and tree trunks.
