Yellow-crowned Tyrannulet

Yellow-crowned Tyrannulet, Tyrannulus elatus, is a passerine of Middle America and South America, breeding from southern Costa Rica through Amazonia. It belongs to the tyrant flycatcher family and is the only species in its genus. First described by Latham in 1790, it is a resident bird across its range. It lives in lowland and foothill humid evergreen forest, including edges, interior openings and canopy, and also uses secondary forest, light woodland, plantations, gardens and suburban parks. Its crown is marked by a bright yellow to orange-yellow central stripe, with a short black bill, brown iris and grey legs and feet.
