Yellow-eared Toucanet

Selenidera spectabilis

The Yellow-eared Toucanet (Selenidera spectabilis) is a striking bird found in the humid forests of the Andes in South America. This species is known for its vibrant plumage, featuring a black body, a yellow ear patch, and a red rump. It has a distinctive, high-pitched call that echoes through the forest canopy. Yellow-eared Toucanets are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and occasionally insects. They are often seen in small flocks, foraging in the upper canopy. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, this species faces threats in some parts of its range.
