Megadyptes antipodes (Hombron & Jacquinot, 1841)

Yellow-eyed Penguin, Megadyptes antipodes, breeds in New Zealand, with its range on the south and south-east of the South Island, Stewart Island and its satellites, the Auckland Islands and Campbell Islands. It is a penguin and the only living member of Megadyptes. Once thought to be closest to the little penguin, later research has placed it nearer to the penguins in Eudyptes. It is also known as hoiho. The species was described by Hombron and Jacquinot in 1841.
