Pheucticus chrysopeplus
The Yellow Grosbeak (Pheucticus chrysopeplus) is a striking medium-sized songbird found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Males have vibrant yellow plumage with black wings and tail, while females are more subdued with olive-yellow coloring. These birds are often found in open woodlands, scrublands, and forest edges, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects. Their melodious song can be heard echoing through their habitat during the breeding season. The Yellow Grosbeak is not currently considered to be at risk, but habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to its populations.
