Heterocercus flavivertex
The Yellow-headed Manakin is a small passerine bird found in the tropical forests of South America. Males of this species are known for their striking yellow head and black plumage, while females have olive-green upperparts and yellowish underparts. These birds are known for their unique courtship displays, where males gather in leks to perform coordinated dances to attract females. Yellow-headed Manakins feed on fruits, insects, and small arthropods, foraging in the lower and middle levels of the forest. They are often found in humid and dense primary forests, as well as secondary forests and forest edges. The conservation status of the Yellow-headed Manakin is currently categorized as Least Concern by the IUCN.
