Yellow-mandibled Sparrow, Arremon axillaris, is a passerine of the New World sparrow family that breeds in north-east Colombia and western Venezuela. It was first named by Philip Sclater in 1854. It lives in the undergrowth of humid lowland forest. The bird is separated from the pectoral sparrow, with which it was once grouped, and is recognised as distinct on the basis of a later phylogenetic study together with differences in bill colour and vocalisation. Its lower mandible is yellow, and it also shows more extensive yellow shoulder patches.
