Yellow-throated Sandgrouse, Pterocles gutturalis, breeds in eastern and south-central Africa and is a bird of the sandgrouse family, Pteroclidae. It was described by Smith, A, 1836. The male is marked by a yellow throat, which gives the bird its common name. It lives in open grassland, farmland and the margins of dry country, and it favours clay-rich ground rather than coarser sandy or stony soils. Two subspecies are recognised, with one found from Tanzania to southern Ethiopia through Kenya and northern Zambia, and the other in Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and northern South Africa.
