The Yellow-vented Flameback, scientifically known as Chrysophlegma mentale, is a medium-sized woodpecker found in Southeast Asia. This bird is known for its striking yellow vent and distinctive black and white plumage. It has a strong, chisel-like bill for drilling into trees in search of insects and sap. The species is often found in primary and secondary forests, as well as wooded areas near human settlements. The Yellow-vented Flameback is known for its loud, rhythmic drumming, which is used for territorial and courtship displays. Despite facing habitat loss and some localized threats, this species is currently not considered to be at risk according to the IUCN Red List.
