Yellow-winged Tanager

Thraupis abbas (Deppe, 1830)

Thraupidae — Tanagers & Allies

Yellow-winged Tanager, Thraupis abbas, breeds in Middle America from eastern Mexico to Nicaragua. It is a tanager of open humid and mesic woodland, and is found on both the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean coasts, as well as along the Pacific side of the region. The bird is marked by yellow patches on its dusky green wings, set against a dark bluish and grey body. Its throat and breast show a pale lavender tone. Juveniles lack this colouring and instead have an olive-green head and upper back.
