Yucatan Nightjar

Nyctiphrynus yucatanicus

The Yucatan Nightjar is a small, nocturnal bird found in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and northern Guatemala. It is characterized by its cryptic plumage, with mottled brown and gray feathers that provide excellent camouflage during the day. This species is often observed at dusk and dawn, where it can be seen foraging for insects in open areas such as savannas, scrublands, and forest edges. The Yucatan Nightjar has a distinctive call, a series of repeated 'chup' notes. Its conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, as it has a relatively wide distribution and stable population.
