Zarudny's Sparrow, Passer zarudnyi, breeds in arid scrub across Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the south-western Palearctic. It is a passerine in the sparrow family Passeridae, and Pleske described it in 1896. The bird is treated as a separate species rather than a desert sparrow subspecies. It has been placed alongside the African desert sparrow in the past, but it is now recognised on its own. Its range is limited to these Central Asian breeding areas.
