Zarumae Antshrike

Thamnophilus zarumae

The Zarumae Antshrike (Thamnophilus zarumae) is a small to medium-sized bird found in the western Amazon basin. It has a distinctive black and white plumage with a prominent white eyebrow and a black throat patch. This species is known for its skulking behavior, often foraging in dense undergrowth and vine tangles. It is typically found in lowland tropical forests, especially near streams and rivers. The Zarumae Antshrike feeds on insects and small invertebrates, using its sharp bill to capture prey. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and deforestation in the Amazon region may pose future conservation challenges for this species.
