Zino's Petrel (Pterodroma madeira) is a medium-sized seabird that is endemic to the Madeira archipelago. It has a dark grey-brown plumage with a white belly and underwings. This species is known for its graceful flight and its haunting calls that echo through the cliffs where it nests. Zino's Petrel is a nocturnal seabird, foraging for fish and squid in the open ocean at night. It nests in burrows on remote cliffs and is highly vulnerable to introduced predators such as rats and feral cats. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its breeding sites and reduce threats to this unique seabird.
