Zino's Petrel

Zino's Petrel, Pterodroma madeira, is a petrel of the Atlantic Ocean that breeds in summer on the mountain slopes of Madeira and spends the non-breeding season off St. Helena and north-east Brazil. It is a member of the Procellariidae and was described by Mathews in 1934. This bird is tied to a small breeding area in the central highlands of Madeira, where it nests in burrows and comes ashore only after dark. It was once treated as part of another petrel, but is now recognised as distinct.
